About
This Advent calendar takes the form of a Capture The Flag (CTF) challenge
designed to test and develop your logic, mathematical reasoning,
problem-solving skills and IT knowledge in many fields. Each day from
December 1st to 24th, a new challenge will unlock.
Solving a challenge reveals a flag, a piece of text that you
must submit to earn points. The first solver earns more points!
The overall difficulty is intentionally kept accessible: all challenges are designed to be solvable by IT apprentices (VET—Vocational Education and Training) with basic command-line, networking, and programming knowledge, so the event should be considered beginner-friendly rather than advanced. The goal is to encourage exploration and learning, not to frustrate participants, and hints or guidance may be provided if you get stuck: please ask on #dac:epfl.ch.
Prohibited Behavior
⚠—Do not:
- Attack, scan, or stress-test any systems outside the official challenge scope (e.g., production servers, institutional sites, or networks).
- Attempt privilege escalation or data extraction from the hosting infrastructure.
- Automate attacks that degrade service availability.
- Share or leak challenge solutions publicly before the calendar ends.
- Use the event to test real-world systems or gather unauthorized data.
